Filming session 2

Filming 2

In filming 2 I did the second third of the filming. This went well, I filmed for 1.30hours and i gathered some excellent close up shots of kendall on the guitar, and some lip syncing shots that worked efffectively. Simularly to filming 1, I should have got more shots of each one shot that I wanted in the Video, to ensure that the camera was at the right angle etc. The sunlight was still perfect, and I did well at ensuring there were not any shadows in the clip. The sky remained blue, which will be effective for my editing.

Filming session 1

Filming 1

The first filming session I managed to film the first two choruses of the song. This was a good amount of filming for the amount of time that I had, 2 hours. I was able to get a good range of shots in, with different angles, and movement. The lighting was perfect, as it was a sunny day and the light was coming from behind.

Weaknesses of the first filming
I should of repeated more of the shots, as some of the shots had some small errors e.g. the camera wasn't level, sudden movement, or a shadow within the clip.

Strenghs of the first filming

I felt the shots at the begining were successful. I did an establishing shot, and then zoomed in closer to Kendal. I felt these shots were effective as they gave away the key features of kendall, within the opening. Within these shots I had a range of angles and speed of zoom to chose from and I think the shots will help me to establish his location at the start of the music video.

Lip Syncing Practice

This is when you match lip movement with sung or spoken vocals.

It was immensely helpful to practice lip syncing - to ensure I could match visual and sound. Initially Kendall's Mouth did not move too much when he sang, so we practiced emphasising it to make it more clear, which will help when I get to the editing stage of my production.
I haven't fully edited this; by muting the noise in the video and putting the track over the top, but it is a sample of how we were practicing to get the movements to match. If I muted video sound, and put an audio clip over the top, the lip syncing would be identical due to him being in time with the audio clip.

Camera Shots

This was in the pitch for 'oh how i do like to be beside the seaside', however, i think the technique is very effective and would add to a good quirky style for the music video i'm now doing. My Music Video is an alternative Genre, so the originality of this would be an effective technique to create the visual I desire.

Screen Test

I did a range of screen shots to allow me to identify what impacts the visual made depending on what was in the frame and the type of shot used.

It also helped me decide whether Kendall was suitable for the role and fitted my criteria i was using to ensure I found someone that portrayed the right image within the Music Video.

Inspiration

Hugely Helpful to watch when I was planning my music video...

Tips i've taken from the video:

  • Play soundtrack during production, to ensure timing is right when it is later lip-synced.
  • No Shadows from the camera people
  • Take at least 2/3 takes of each shot that I might want
  • Run through the whole song a number of times
  • Magic bullet - colour grade is vital to make it look profesional
