Costume

Must compliment the image and set the tone.

•Jeans
•Checkered Shirt
•Grey Hoody
•Converse

Nothing that stands out, and it must fit in with rural background. Stereotyping is crucial!

Costumes - three different outfits

This is the first outfit that I thought about for Kendal - chilled surfer shirt with cargo shorts and a pair of vans. This look was chilled, but possibly more for the beach than fields in the country.

Checked shirt and Cargo shorts, outfit 2. I felt this didn't compliment Kendall and just wasn't the right look that I wanted to create.

Outfit 2, smarter option, jumper and jeans. This I really liked but isn't suitable to be sat on a trailer in the middle of no where. I feel it is more a gig outfit, rather than sitting on a trailer.

Perfect outfit - Really chilled casual look. I feel the checked shirt makes Kendall fit into the back ground image well, being in the country side, checked shirts often represent farm boys traditionally. The jeans are appropriate for the weather and help create the relaxed look, but keep a contrast in colours between the straw, trailer and back drop etc.

The Artists Profile

Kendall Williams

Age 18
Brown Hair
Lives in Woodstock
Born in Oxfordshire
Unique and Individual
Loves Music - especially Guitar

Ideal Location

My ideal Location would be on the top of a mountain, with one form of transport (Quadbike/trailer) - very simple with not much in the scene other than wants in the distance. I want to get the emotions across that there is a sense of freedom and deep thought - but also power as Kendall is looking off the mountain, as if he is on top of the world. It is a quirky original idea, and not something i have seen done before. However, it would help portray the emotions i wish to create to entice the audience in.

Inspiration - Boyce Avenue

Boyce Avenue - Bush Cover

This performance based music video was inspiring for my music video, and it has the same genre to the song 'Person inside'. The simplicity of the surroundings allowed you to focus on the singer and the instrument. This was effective as it showed Gavin Rossdale's emotions and passion behind the song. I think it's good to emphasis the artists thoughts behind their lyrics as it entices the audience in and shares emotions.

STAR IMAGE

Ideally if I could design the image of the person to perform in my music video it would be Enrique Iglesias.

I feel this artist would suit the image of the song, even though his music would not. The video idea is quirky and original - and I feel his look would portray this well.

Enrique is tanned with dark brown hair and stubble, he stereotypically comes across as a guitar player, and seems gentle and a bit of a legend, (from his appearance in images).

THE Location choice

 THE Location..
 - Large scope of vision
- Single Track Road
- Fields either side
- Private road, so quiet enough to film.
- Opportunity to have the Landrover disappearing at the end into the distance.
- Variety of colours (grass, mud, road, etc.)

Location Option 1

Single track road, fields either side..

Significance of location: shows Kendall can only go in one direction, and he has control/freedom.

Location Options

There were three locations of which I thought about:

This is a balcony of a mannor house, which looks out over a rural area (fields, forestry etc.) I felt this would create a personal feel, but still involve open space and freedom. I could get a wide variety of shots using the different levels that this would offer me: e.g. stood on the wall, from below the balcony, looking down on the balcony from the upstairs windows etc. The trees that surround the area could represent the obstacles and challenges that Kendall faces before being able to break through..

Weaknesses - The balcony was big, and made Kendall look a bit insignificant.. It would therefore be hard to show him breaking through towards the end of the song..

This is a Ski Resort in Austria -
The reason I felt this could be a potential location spot - was because it has a large depth of field, and this would help me to show Kendall's deep thought and confusion between his heart and his mind. A weakness of this location is that it is such a beautiful place and this may take away the focus on Kendall and make the music video seem to happy rather than showing thought.

Fields with a single track road though the middle -

There are many locations around Oxfordshire where I could have a location simular to this one. I think this would be effective because:

  • I can get a large depth of field, showing the whole world is at his feet.
  • The single track road is significant as it represents a one way direction - Kendall can only make one decision and go in one direction.
  • The fields represent freedom, and this is significant as it shows he is in control of his own decisions.
  • It's slightly quirky and random, which goes with Kendall's independent style. This will create a stronger impact on the audience as the imagery and vocals will compliment each other and work together. I think this is significant because it will make the music video more powerful as the imagery will make vocals stronger and exaggerated, which will create more of an impact to the audience and allow them to relate to the song.
  • It will create thought and emphasise emotions within the frame, which will draw the audience in.

After analysing three very different location spots, it has become very clear to me that I will find a location with a single track road and fields either side. I feel this is the most appropriate location style for the music video 'person inside'.

Third idea - Lead singer.

The third idea is based around Kendall the lead singer.

The song chosen is person inside

The music Video is going to be performance based. Kendall will do a performance in the middle of no where - urban surroundings - of where he will appear on a trailer performing the track. There will be a range of different shots, focusing on Kendall him self and the instruments being used. The final shot will be him disappearing into the distance as he continues playing..

2nd idea for Offshore break..

The second idea is based on a song called 'person inside' - which could be linked to a love story.

The idea was to have Kendall playing in the band - and then having him in a field on a walk, thinking about life, and then clips of a girl in her room writing songs and doing her own thing. From this i wanted to portray him as a happy person, enjoying being with his friends in a band - but show how there is only one thing on his mind, a girl.

Shots simular to this image, however the characters would be in two separate locations to show thought rather than an argument.

I'd like to try and pull on peoples emotions and attract them in - showing that love is a sensitive area.

Lyrics Annotation

Lyrics Annotation allowed me to identify the meaning behind the song and get a feel for the emotion at different stages within. This was important before creating a storyboard and filming, as it allowed me to get a feel for the emotions and the journey that the song lyrics go through.

The lyrics start with Kendall's mind/heart being stuck in the middle 'so within reach but then so far out', then he identifies that 'only good things can come', Verse 3 is when everything starts to change, and then the bridge verse is when he is coming through and his thoughts have come to a conclusion (no longer stuck in the middle).

Throughout the song it is in first person, which is why  I think Kendall needs to be the performer in my music video so that I can really capture the emotions behind all the lyrics.

The Song

The song chosen is Person Inside.

This was the first song that Kendall wrote, and the one he feels most strongly about. This is important as it will allow me to capture the true emotions behind the song, which will consequently help create more emotions for the audience watching.

Idea For Offshore Break

The first idea for Offshore break in a music video is based on a song called 'hello again'

The idea was to have two parallel scenes - shots of them as a group performing, and then have them on an airstrip.

On the Airstrip:

- Four different forms of transport:

- Having a race on an airstrip, in beat with the song 'hello again'
- Different shots, creating a comedy effect.

(The song lyrics will be posted - however there is a bit where different band members, rather than the lead guy shout 'hey', so the plan was to have close ups of the individuals.

This idea would be fun and quirky - alternative music video, and would be a mix between performance and concept based.

Production Plan

I must stick to this Production Plan implicitly, due to changing my idea, their is much less time. This gives me less freedom and means that I must get tasks done on these given dates inorder to meet deadlines.

Record Label Permission

Kendall Williams wrote and sang the song, and has given me permission to use it within the production. He is also going to be appearing in the music video itself.

Kendall has given me permission to use the music and filming for my A2 music Production and put it on my blogger.
